For more than 40 years I have been an ardent fan of Dame Shirley Bassey. The most exciting, powerful and stunningly beautiful female entertainer I have ever seen. After attending more than 50 live performances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, I have witnessed what that woman can do to an audience.

For 8 years with Dame Shirley's permission, I ran the only official fan club for her in the world. I was president of The Shirley Bassey Collectors Club from 1989 to 1997. The membership spanned 12 countries and we all rejoiced in celebrating the career achievements of this beloved icon. Personally, I have a collection of thousands of photographs and audio tapes of many of her US concerts. I’ve seen impersonators, both male and female try to capture her aura on stage. Some were good, some were caricature, but none were great. Then I got to see PAULA RANDELL, from Great Britain, whom I had heard did amazing takes on Tina Turner and Cher.

As Dame Shirley Bassey, PAULA RANDELL has no equal. I have had to actually look twice at her photos and video footage to make sure I was not looking at the real deal! Vocally, PAULA RANDELL possesses the throb, unbelievable power, vibrato, and robust lustre that has made Bassey a household name around the world. This gushing narrative appears on the back of the then, Miss Shirley Bassey’s 1968 album, This is my Life. This could also be written about the most fabulous Paula Randell’s stage show portraying the music of Dame Shirley Bassey.

With Paula’s DSB concert one is transported back to the Roundhouse in 2009.The gowns are amazing, the arrangements are spot on and the vocals are just incredibly accurate. Whilst some artistes over force the sound when singing as Dame Shirley, Paula’s voice is neither forced nor contrived.

The concert is just amazing. We were all thrilled to have Paula’s Concert at our historic East Lancashire Victorian Theatre and with the standing ovations, the audience were equally as thrilled. I have seen DSB more times than I can count and, Paula, well... fantastic!
